Successful 2024 for NDT Project Solutions

It’s been a year of milestones and sustained progress for our businesses this year, with several hugely exiting projects completed and more on the horizon.

Our UK arm was heavily involved in the conceptual design for the intake/uptake systems on the Queen Elizabeth Class (CVF), ALHD FFB design intent changes and turnkey solutions for RFA Bay Class exhaust refit.

NDT Australia has expanded its footprint in the country still further this year, opening a new office in Darwin in February. We are currently more than halfway through a five-year service contract with Babcock Australia & New Zealand to support critical fire safety systems onboard HMAS Canberra and Adelaide. The work covers spares support, in-life inspections and maintenance as well as obsolescence engineering management.

This year NDT Australia partnered with UK-based Fuel Specialist Services (FSS) to fit a fuel filtration system on a Royal Australian Navy vessel (HMAS Choules) for the very first time. In marked the first joint endeavour between our two companies since we announced our official collaboration earlier this year. Working together, we developed and manufactured a bespoke mobile fuel filtration system, which ‘cleans and polishes’ fuel to help prolong the lifespan of engines. The system has been integrated into the ship's existing systems on the container deck and will be used for refuelling helicopters.

Over the past 12 months we’ve also added our NDT UK Ltd office to our existing ISO Certifications for 9001, 14001 and 45001, an important milestone moving forward which enables us to align our processes with our clients’ expectations.

We also completed RFA Lyme Bay’s conditional exhaust system inspection this year. The 8L Generator and 12V Main Engine inspection was carried out at A&P Group Limited Falmouth over the summer, ensuring the ship’s exhaust systems were in operational condition before her 12-month overseas deployment.

Our specialist teams worked closely with the A&P project teams as well as the ship’s staff on board RFA Lyme Bay to complete the inspection on time. Looking ahead our vision is to now expand on this capability - inspecting, fabricating, and installing exhausts systems to other vessels in the Royal Navy and RFA fleet.

NDT Australia is also in the tendering phase for several other high-profile contracts, with the promise of further expansion on the horizon. As a business one of our major strengths is being able to draw on expertise in both Australia and the UK. It’s a priority for NDT Australia to utilise the expertise of Australia-based engineers and other specialists. It’s something we’re incredibly proud of.

We’re a firm that’s global in outlook but which is still able to think locally when needed, which is vital for countries like Australia which are building in-country capacity. All in all, this has been a great year for our business and we are excited for the year ahead.
